Watch devotees taking a holy dip in the river Ganga to attain moksha or liberation or get drenched while rafting your way down the waters of the Ganges for some adrenaline rush, Haridwar and Rishikesh are unique destinations that not only have religious significance but are any adventurer’s delight. Located in the foothills of the majestic Himalayas, the two ancient cities are blessed with stunning landscapes that also make them two of the most revered wellness retreats.

Haridwar in Sanskrit means Gateway to Lord Shiva. It is one of the seven holiest places for the Hindus. A regular sight that you will come across during your trip to this sacred city would be that of the numerous devotees taking a holy bath in the Ganga river, with the belief that it will wash off all their sins. And in the evenings, the famous ghat of Haridwar, the Har-ki-pauri illuminates with the light of the oil lamps that decorate the river waters as the daily ritual, the Ganga aarti, is performed by the priests of the temples in the vicinity.
